Equine Therapist

If you have ever been able to have a personal body massage, then you certainly understand how it feels to relax from the stress, work load or family stresses. In the same sense we feel that horses too will benefit from massage therapy. Horses are very subtle with their communication to their owners, and if we are not aware of their actions, they may begin to become more exacerbated to the point that some would say “acting out”. The subtle movement of him pointing his nose at his shoulder could mean that he is tight in that shoulder from his training session earlier in the day or possibly from days past. Even a flick of the skin when you run your hand across his back could be his way of telling you that his back hurts. Our therapist works with each horse on several levels of the spectrum to help promote happy, healthier lives for these wonderful creatures.
Going a step further, when you have a massage, do they incorporate aromatherapy into your session? In most every session I have been to, there have been the use of oils or herbs in some way or form to help reduce stress, open airways and other forms of therapy. Researchers have found that oils and herbs do have a strong effect on humans and their system. Having said that, wouldn’t this be just as effective on horses? In fact, it is. Equine therapists have been practicing oils and herbs for years and researched the benefits. Although there may not be many therapists in the area that use this form, we want to offer this to you and your horse. You can even incorporate oils and herbs to their daily routines. (I do want to caution competitors that show, if you are at risk of being swabbed at a show, you should only use herbs and oils that will not test positive to drug use) There are many areas that herbal and aromatherapy can assist horses and their owners. Here are just a few.
